The former home (~1968) of John and Sylvia Sutherland in Minneapolis shown in 18 photos. Despite John's statements in ZMM, this looks to us like a wonderful home along a quiet shady street, in a perfectly fine neighborhood!

“So much knowledge to gain but where do I begin?”

This Is a Beginners Guide: Here Are Some of the First Pages You Should Goto on This ZMM Quality Web Site.

During an interview, Robert Pirsig once stated that his book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (ZMM) “grew organically, in no premeditated direction, but only as ideas for improving it emerged.”

In the same sense, Dr. Henry Gurr’s website takes on the same characteristics, having grown organically into an immense collection of scholarly and personal approaches to ZMM.

This Page Will Help You Know Where To Start.

As students in a USCA Technical Writing class, we are providing in this page, an introductory index to Dr. Gurr’s elaborative yet informative website re the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance(ZMM). We offer this page so that future users, whether scholars or students or fans of ZMM can more easily access the genres of information that they might seek. (NOTE: You may either click on the links below, or at any time click on the Menu Items at left. When you click to see a page, it will come up in a new browser frame. This way you will not loose the page you were just looking at.)

1) The first link below will take you a collection of ZMM photo albums.

Here you will find author Robert Pirsig's own photos taken in 1968, as he and his son Chris followed the route upon which ZMM was later based. These photos are by far the most popular part of Professor Gurr's site.
You will also see a second gallery which shows Professor Gurr's research photos along the ZMM Route. These photos, taken Summer 2002, show the sights and scenes of the ZMM Book. The second link below explains how to use the Gallery Slide Show. This Slide Show will greatly speed up your viewing of Professor Gurr's Albums. The third link explains how the captions to the Gallery Photos were organized. The fourth link is Dr. Henry Gurr's detailed description of his travel experience to California following the route of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
