World Famous Big J Restaurant, Several Blocks North of the Main Highway! Note Canadian Flag At Top Of Sign. On my second ZMM trip my son David discovered this provocative sign. Of course I had to get a photo and here it is! this sign announces good food and friendly people. When I was actually at this restaurant, I had no idea it was world famous! ************************************ (Photo = Summer 2006 0291 ...... ZMM Page = 067 ...... WayPt = 0\k `|w|' ft)

A Local Artist Shows the Town His Vision of a Football Player. Main Street about one block North of, and on same side as, the Big J Restaurant Bowman, ND. I thought you would like to see this. There seems to be more interest in football iconography than that of ranchers & cowboys. ************************************ (Photo = Summer2006 0282 ...... ZMM Page = 067 ...... The ZMM Narrator, Chris and the Sutherlands Came Along This Road in Mid July 1968. At That Time This Land Was Experiencing A Fierce Heat Wave, and the Emotional Impact Of This Barren Tortured Landscape Made It Even Worse Them. On my second trip to Miles City and Bozeman, I paid more attention after Bowman and was successful in finding the Narrator's Bad Lands. The transition from productive irrigated fields to this awesome scar is readily visible in aerial photos. Search Google Maps (or Mapquest) for Bowman, ND. Then request "combined map & aerial, then move West along Rt 12 for 14 miles. You will see what I mean. Marmarth, MT. ************************************ (Photo = Summer 2006 0336...... Cactus and Sparse Vegetation on the Bare Volcanic Ash Bear Witness: This Is Indeed Harsh Land!! On my second trip to Miles City and Bozeman, The ZMM Narrator chose this very harsh landscape to poetically amplify his terrible feelings about the processes of technology. Bad Lands 5 miles after Rhame, MT. ************************************ (Summer 2006 0335...... ZMM Page = 068 ...... WayPt = 078`|k|' 2925ft)

Despite the Bad Lands We Just Saw, Here Survives a Small Town. On my second trip to Miles City and Bozeman, I had more time so I decided to stop, rest and take this photo In the Center of this small town. Here on this business area on a side street off Rt 12, the town doesn't seem so abandoned and desolate as the main road thru town. It even has an active railroad. I Stop To Photograph These Horses. They Come Closer And Are Just As Curious About Me. This "Posse" Sniffs at Me Expecting a Handout. Despite their tough living conditions, these horses go on living any way, and seem both well fed and content. I took too long talking to the horses, and missed my shot when all the horses had a good photogenic group positioning. 20 Mi W of Baker, MT. ************************************ (Photo = 104-0471c ......
