It is my understanding that ZMM author Robert Pirsig, with his family, lived in a Montana State University staff housing village Southeast of campus center. Here is a photo of one of the remaining homes in this village. IDEA: Could this house be purchased and converted into a “Robert Pirsig Museum”? What better place than the campus where it all happened? In the summer time when “Pirsig Pilgrims” come through, seminars on Pirsig and ZMM could be give here by MSUB professors. Even Pirsig Inspired Writing Seminars and related work shops could be given! 109-0908_IMG.JPG

Continuous Flowing Mountain Spring Water, Hyalite Canyon Campground, Gallatin Gateway MT. In the serenity of the Early Morning Montana Mountains this clear smooth water flow "lenses" the trees and sky beyond. Study closely here and then repeat with the next clear water you find. Pirsig and Quality sould be, will be, there! (Photo = 108-0865_IMG.JPG)

Shadow and Halo In the Early Morning Heavy Dew. Bright sunshine on early morning heavy large dew droplets creates this clearly seen halo around my "head". I truly received a blessing! Is this physical example the origin of the angle halo concept, which was then later used by artists to show in paintings the holiness of the early Christian Saints? A different "ring halo" is seen in a related phenomenon called the "Glory"! Hyalite Canyon Campground, Gallatin Gateway, MT. ************************************ (Photo = 108-0867 ...... A & W Rootbeer Restaurant. I believe this was Cardwell MT about 1/2 mi west of Black City Park and intersection of Rt 55 with gas stations. Although author Pirsig states that they enjoyed “hamburgers and malteds at the A & W Stand in Mobridge SD, this is the only operating A & W that I encountered on the entire ZMM Route. (Nw GPS Way Point Recorded.) Photo = 109-0954_IMG.JPG)

Interior of the A & W Rootbeer Restaurant Cardwell MT. (As stated in previous photo, I believe this was the correct town.). My craving a good cool A & W Rootbeer stayed with me ever since Mobridge SD. As I approached Mobridge that beastly hot afternoon, my research plan, of course, included locating the town's "A & W" where Pirsig and his companions found their "hamburgers and malteds". I was correspondingly primed for a "Rootbeer Cooler"! But I was sorely disappointed. (See ZMMquality.org/Gallery Photos ZMM Part I captions of Mobridge Photographs.) As evidence that my A & W craving never left me, I couldn't pass this restraint without stopping! The cold stormy rainy Montana weather shown in the previous didn't erase my South Dakota hot day thirst for one of those favorite old-time "sodas"!

Lowel ID. Curves and more curves in the mountains of “back-country ... way up yonder” Idaho. The sign back at Lolo Pass on Montana-Idaho Border said “No Auto Services for 75 Miles”. (Photo = 110-1053_IMG.JPG)

Mountain Stream “White Water Rafting”, Lochsa River Gorge, some 15 Mi East of Lowell OR. The ZMM Route follows this rapid flowing Mountain Stream (really a river), for easily 40 miles. As you drive the highway, the excited shouts, shrieks, (and groans) of the raft crews can easily be heard. To get this shot, I drove on ahead of this happy crowd, to a clearing near the road. I position myself, camera in hand, and mentally ran through good pix check list. For these “once ever” shots have newly recharged batteries, plenty of spare digital memory capacity (or plenty of remaining pictures on film roll.) AND Check all camera settings, including & pixels picture size and Megabytes/picture settings. Also practice your intended maneuvers. (Photo = 110-1074_IMG.JPG)
